with today’s fast changing preferences, you’d think this stuff would get old! Are all of my friends/relatives just being suckered into something? Does the last email go to some marketing firm that now has tons of info on everyone?

They are harvesting email addresses. Also if you don`t know them you could be pegged as sending Spam. So be careful.
